QuestionAnswer
When do containers move off of Active Shipments?Containers are added to Active Shipments as soon as tracking begins, indicated by a valid MBL (Master Bill of Lading) + Container pair. They are removed from this tab when the container's journey concludes. Typically, this happens when the container is returned empty. In cases where no empty return date is available, it remains on the page for 30 days after the out-gate date.
How are Demurrage & Detention fees estimated?Gnosis Freight utilizes a specific data hierarchy to estimate charges for shipments. Our approach involves prioritizing the following sources in the order listed below:

Charges from Terminal: We first consider charges directly obtained from the terminal where your shipment is processed.‍

Custom Contracts: If applicable, we take into account any custom contracts that have been provided to us on your behalf.‍

Generic Spot-Rate Contracts: In cases where neither terminal charges nor custom contracts are available, we rely on generic spot-rate contracts to estimate charges for your shipment.
Can you capture the current demurrage owed? For terminals that provide relevant data, we display the current listed demurrage amount, which adjusts as fees are paid off. Our estimated demurrage serves as the total accrued amount for that specific container.
Why is the Master Bill of Lading so important? The Master Bill of Lading (MBL) plays a critical role in our tracking system. It helps us determine the correct carrier to retrieve data from. Additionally, since container numbers are frequently reused, the MBL ensures the accurate tracing of a container's journey. It enables us to query US customs and access terminal information with greater precision.
Will containers ever be removed from the portal?Every container you submit remains on the All Shipments page after its journey has concluded. This historical data is valuable for record-keeping and can be leveraged for powerful supply chain analysis and contract negotiations. We encourage customers to use this analysis when assessing their providers' performance.
What shipments should be included on my Global map?We use AIS data to populate the global map, updating your vessel's locations periodically throughout the day. Once a vessel arrives at the port of discharge, it will no longer appear on the Global Map.
How often is tracking data 'refreshed'?All active shipments are updated multiple times throughout the day. You should see milestones reflected in the portal within 6 hours of them being posted by the source (Steamship Line, terminal, etc.).
What does it mean to 'Repo' a container? If you 'Repo' a container, you are essentially hiding that shipment from all other views. Customers often use this feature when there is a typo in the MBL or Container number or when a shipment is rolled and assigned a new MBL.
Why do some of my shipments not have an Empty Return date?Empty return dates are often steamship line & terminal specific. If the respective SSL and/or terminal do not provide the empty return date, it will remain blank in Gnosis. However, users have the ability to manually mark a container as returned empty using the 'Manual Empty Return' field. This is an editable field that serves the same as the 'Empty Return' field. If the Manual Empty Return is marked, it will change the shipment's status and remove the container from all pages except the 'All Shipments' page.
What do the different colors on the ETA Calendar mean? The ETA Calendar is indexed using the 'Current Vessel ETA'. As that container arrives and changes statuses, the color block for that container will change in accordance to the current status.
Why do some of my shipments have a red icon next to MBL & Container? These icons indicate that the shipment has been marked 'Priority'.
Can I remove shipments from the Demurrage and/or Detention page?Yes! You can remove shipments from this page by editing the 'Manual Empty Return' field. If this field is populated, it changes the status and removes the shipment from these pages.
What consists of the 'Arriving This Week' and 'Arriving Next Week' tabs? These pages are indexed using the Current Vessel ETA. All containers on the Arriving Next Week page, for example, are estimated to arrive at the ocean port of discharge next week.
I can't find my shipment in the platform. What should I do?First, look for your shipment on the 'All Shipments' page. This page includes all active and historical shipments and serves as a comprehensive container database. If you do not find it here, check the 'Not Tracking' page as it may not be tracked yet. Lastly, check the 'Not Tracking Repository' to ensure it has not been repossessed by another user. If you still cannot find your shipment, please reach out to your account manager(s).
